CAF Highlights Nigeria’s Super Eagles Ahead of AFCON 2025
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has shared a special message celebrating Nigeria’s Super Eagles as they prepare for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The three-time African champions aim to reclaim the title after narrowly missing out in the 2023 tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, where they lost 2-1 in the final despite taking an early lead through Captain William Troost-Ekong.
CAF highlighted Nigeria’s remarkable history at AFCON:
-
21 appearances at the tournament
-
3 titles, 5 runners-up, and 8 third-place finishes
-
104 matches played with 146 goals scored
-
Rashidi Yekini remains Nigeria’s all-time top scorer with 13 goals
Following Troost-Ekong’s retirement, CAF hinted that Wilfred Ndidi will captain the Super Eagles in Morocco.
For AFCON 2025, Nigeria is drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. Fans have expressed excitement and hope, with many praising the squad’s potential and looking forward to a strong tournament performance.
The final 28-man squad will be announced by coach Eric Chelle on Thursday, December 11, after submitting a 54-man provisional list.
